The Arizona woman says she has gone to bed with extreme headaches in the past and woke up speaking with what sounds like a foreign accent. It's an extremely rare condition that usually accompanies a stroke, neurological damage or other underlying medical issues. She says that often people don't believe she isn't British nor do they realize there isn't actually that much amusing about the situation, at least not for Myers, who says she wants her condition to be taken very seriously. The condition makes skin elastic and joints flexible to the point of dislocation, leading to the rupture of blood vessels, which is why Myers constantly has bruises on her legs.

Foreign Accent Syndrome (FAS) is a rare but diagnosed illness that typically occurs following severe trauma.

Myers has another condition that could also be linked to her changing accents. In other instances, she has developed Australian and Irish accents. In this current episode, however, the British accent has persisted for about two years, she said.

"Everybody only sees or hears Mary Poppins", she said to ABC.

She's gone from an American English accent to speaking with an Irish, Australian and even a British accent, local United States media reports.

A linguist from the Brown University, Sheila Blumstein, who has researched on FAS, told The Washington Post that a Virginia woman fell down a stairwell which rattled her brain and she awoke speaking with a Russian-like accent.

According to The Sun, Myers can't pronounce her children's names the same, has been mistaken for a nanny and asked if she has a green card.

Meyers wants to make clear she's not faking it or insane.

This rare condition was first recorded by French neurologist Pierre Marie in 1907 after a man in Paris spoke a local German dialect after suffering a stroke.

Imagine going to sleep and waking up sounding British.

"I started crying and they realized something was really wrong", she said, India Times reported. "I'm sad [.], I feel like a different person. The person I am now has been through so much compared to this person".

And one particular person seems to come to mind when she speaks.

Myers told KNXV that she is trying to maintain a positive attitude and just wants to be taken seriously since she is aware of how her condition sounds to others.
