The majority (55%) of hospital admissions were due to the influenza B strain.

At the beginning of February, the numbers who'd died from flu this season stood at 55. If there is any good news, it's that it appears the peak has been reached and the number of cases is slowly declining. A total of 1,143 confirmed cases were reported previously.

The latest flu numbers are out and it seems the virus has hammered Alberta this season.

The state Department of Public Health reports an additional 20 flu deaths for the week ending last Saturday.

Hospitalizations are up 47 per cent with 2,438 people admitted to hospital with the flu.

The areas where flu is most widespread is Leinster and Munster, while parts of Connacht are not so badly affected, with only localised reports in Donegal.

The flu season usually runs through May.

Those anxious about the flu or feel that might be at risk, should speak with their doctor about getting the flu shot or other preventative measures.
