Tiger Woods, widely hailed as the best golfer of his generation, is starting to believe he can do something he hasn't done in half a decade - win a title on the PGA Tour. I played well all day.

Justin Thomas and Daniel Berger each shot 72 and were in a large group at 139.

"Maybe I ought to have been a little smarter to pick some easier venues, " he said. Tournament officials have added extra police and volunteers at Goslings Bear Trap.

"I made two bad swings, and it cost me, what, three shots there", Woods said. Generally, one of the best players prevail at the end of weeks like this. It was hard to get the ball close, even if the ball is in the fairway, it's still very difficult to get the ball close, with the wind blowing as hard as it is.

Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, shot a second consecutive 72 to sit seven off the lead, but defending champion Rickie Fowler failed to make the cut after a 76 gave him a 147 total, two shots shy of qualifying for the weekend. This is a golf course where you've got to hit greens. The Englishman, who played with Fowler in the final group a year ago on Sunday, MC by a shot while shooting down plenty of teams on the way.

Woods found the bunker with his approach into the par-five third and undercooked a chip out of the rough, before requiring two putts from inside five feet on his way to carding a double-bogey seven.

"It's kind of irrelevant because there's going to be 30 guys within a couple shots of the lead, " List said.

List, who is seeking his first PGA Tour triumph, entered the Honda Classic having earned $744,344.70 so far in the 2017-18 season, ranking 42nd on the money list.

Meanwhile, Adam Scott made a good a start on his goal to play the weekend rounds under par and salvage a respectable result. "It's going to be that type of week".

Woods started the day at even-par, but began his round with a bogey at the par-4 second, before getting that stroke back with a birdie at the par-4 fourth. His birdie count jumped from two to five in Round 2 and is only four shots out of the lead. "Yesterday he hit one on this hole 346, which was the longest tee shot".

It landed 12 feet below the hole for a birdie putt.

His tee shot went into the water and after taking a drop, his third shot also found the water as he shot for the green.

It was a big moment because of No. 17's difficulty. He felt the same way as Woods.

"I've made some nice tweaks; I'm hitting the ball flush and I'm really controlling the (ball flight), especially here with the wind blowing this hard".
