Report: This Year's 'Battlefield' Is Going Back to WWII
02 March, 2018, 08:01
Well, this isn't an official confirmation by any means, but a new source is now backing up the previous World War II reports. It's been no secret in EA investors meetings that another installment in the flagship shooter brand would be coming this year, likely setting up an semi-annual alternating release schedule between Battlefield and Battlefront titles. The studio had been referring to the game as Battlefield 2 internally, thus indicating that Battlefield 1 was a reboot for the franchise in more ways than previously believed.
EA and Battlefield developer DICE decided on this strategy several years ago.
Randy Evans, a senior video & media director/editor at DICE, made a decision to get us very excited last weekend when he said that the reveal trailer for this year's Battlefield game is underway.
This also follows on the success of later year's Call of Duty: WWII, which sold more than any CoD for a number of years.
It should also be noted that this isn't the first time that we heard Battlefield 2018 would be set in WWII. Of course, Battlefield 1 did very well so now EA's looking to maintain that momentum while transitioning to WWII.
However, their sources say Battlefield 2 will be out this calendar year, which nearly definitely means late October or November.
We've reached out to EA for comment, and will update this post with any responses we receive.
