Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday there was "no reason" for early election over spiraling coalition crisis.

"We will discuss Iranian aggression in our region in general and regarding the Iranian nuclear program in particular", he said in a statement released on his behalf on Saturday.

Trump said before his meeting with the prime minister that he may come to Jerusalem to mark the move of the USA embassy from Tel Aviv, an event scheduled to coincide with Israel's 70th independence anniversary.

Trump, with Netanyahu at his side in the Oval Office, said he was considering making what would be his second visit to Jerusalem as president. "If I can, I will". Meanwhile, Netanyahu remained embroiled in controversy back home where he is facing corruption charges. Trump underscored his goal of countering Iran's "malign influence", the White House said after Trump met Netanyahu.

Netanyahu said Iran was a common challenge both the US and Israel have to deal with because the country hasn't given up its nuclear visions.

Both leaders say the ties between their countries have never been stronger. "Iran must be stopped. That is our common challenge", Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu said that the Jewish people have a long memory and will not forget what he did regarding Jerusalem.

Israel has accused Tehran of seeking a permanent military presence in Syria, where Iranian-backed forces support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in a civil war.

Netanyahu also praised Trump, saying that his move to recognise Jerusalem as the Israeli capital would be remembered throughout the ages. He has accused Iran of planning to build precision-guided missile factories in Lebanon, amid tensions along that border.

But he added that because of Iran, it is also important to "exploit the opportunities for peace" with the Palestinians.

"The US President, when asked what would be if the Palestinians did not come back to the table, abruptly said "If they don't come back, there won't be peace", Middle East correspondent Ron Ross has told our newsroom.

Participating in the talks was Trump's senior adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who has been on the defensive amid investigations into alleged meddling by Russian Federation in the 2016 presidential campaign.

The White House said the downgrade of Kushner's security clearance did not affect the role he played in the meeting. An Israeli official said Netanyahu and Trump were likely to talk about how to overcome European resistance on the matter. "He was very interested in my assessments and recommendations", Netanyahu said. Netanyahu has denied any wrongdoing.
