A computer problem has forced airport staff to manually process passengers at the T1 global and T2 Domestic terminals.

Their longest delay was two hours, and delays are now running from between 30 to 90 minutes.

Virgin Australia flights were also recovering from significant delays, which included two cancellations.

'There will be some impact to our flights today as a result.

"We are experiencing outbound delays while we fix this technical issue which we're working to rectify as quickly as we can", she said.

Passengers at Sydney Airport have faced major delays after a "technical" issues halted security.

Qantas' domestic Terminal 3 was not affected.

Officials are urging any passengers who planned to fly from Sydney airport today to call their airline and/or check their flight time and status online.

A spokesperson for Sydney Airport told ARN that the technical problems arose from "an underlying technology issue that we were addressing".

Meanwhile in Brisbane a passenger set off a security screen at the worldwide terminal, causing a backlog of commuters.

"The AFP is assisting Brisbane Airport security staff following a routine passenger screening matter", a statement from the Australian Federal Police said.

At around 7:45AM Sydney Airport Tweeted that it was once again processing passengers in the affected terminals.
