Nuclear Weapons: Repentant North Korea's President To Meet Trump In May

No sitting USA president is known to have ever met with a North Korean leader.

Chung said that during his meeting with Kim, the North Korean leader expressed his commitment to denuclearization as well as his "eagerness to meet with Trump as soon as possible".

"Kim Jong Un talked about denuclearisation with the South Korean Representatives, not just a freeze", Mr Trump said on Twitter last night. On November 29 past year, the North Korean leader said that his country had achieved full nuclear statehood after what he said was the successful test of a new missile capable of striking anywhere in the United States. However, he stated that sanctions on North Korea would remain in place until the Communist country achieved denuclearisation.

Back in 2013, Trump dismissed Rodman from The Apprentice when his team made the unforgivable mistake of presenting an advertising poster that misspelled the name of Trump's wife Melania, writing "Milania".

Several Pentagon officials said shortly before the announcement that they had no knowledge of what the South Koreans planned to announce.

Trump's aides have been wary of North Korea's diplomatic overtures because of its history of reneging on worldwide commitments and the failure of disarmament efforts by previous USA administrations.

Just a few hours earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who is traveling in Africa, had said the adversaries were still a long way from holding negotiations.

The White House later said no firm timetable was set.

But he said it will take "some weeks" to arrange the timing for their meeting.

President Moon Jae-in said the news was "like a miracle".

"We look forward to the denuclearization of North Korea (DPRK)".

She added: "In the meantime, all sanctions and maximum pressure must remain". His more bellicose talk, and Kim's nuclear and missile tests, have fueled fears of war. He has derided Kim by referring to him as 'Little Rocket Man'.

Asian stock markets rose on the news, with Japan's Nikkei ending up 0.5 percent and South Korean stocks more than 1 percent higher.

In a key North Korean concession, Chung said Kim understood "routine" joint military exercises between South Korea and the USA must continue. Those exercises had been postponed while South Korea hosted the Winter Olympics. The drills are expected to resume next month.

Instead of a televised addressed to the nation or a press conference in the stately East Room, the news ultimately was delivered by a South Korean national security official standing on the White House driveway.

Christian Conservative MP Gary Streeter, who is a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on North Korea, told Premier that while he is surprised by the potential meeting, he remains cautiously hopeful. "I will happily give you credit".
