President Donald Trump has requested a military parade, similar to the one he attended on Bastille Day last summer in France (pictured here), likely to be held in Washington, D.C. this fall.

However, it will play the host to "a heavy air component at the end of the parade, to include older aircraft as available".

President Donald Trump is a step closer to getting his fervently wished for military parade, which is expected to cost taxpayers between $10 and $30 million.

"The objective of this memorandum is to provide initial guidance for the planning and execution of a military-themed Veteran's Day Parade in Washington, D.C. on November 11, 2018", the office of Defense Secretary James Mattis wrote in a memo published Friday.

"This parade will focus on the contributions of our veterans throughout the history of the US Military, starting from the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 to today, with an emphasis on the price of freedom", the memo said.

Critics have argued that a parade could cost millions of dollars at a time when the Pentagon wants more stable funding for an over-stretched military.

The Joint Staff is in charge of organizing the event, while the Northern Command will execute it on the day of.

The Defense Department had earlier said it was planning for "around" that date, which is known in the United States as Veterans Day and in other countries as Remembrance Day marking the end of World War I.

The District of Columbia Council had ridiculed the idea of a parade on Pennsylvania Avenue, the 1.2-mile (1.9-km) stretch between the Capitol and the White House that is also the site of the Trump International Hotel.

Trump praised the French display months later when he and Macron met in NY, saying: "We're going to have to try and top it".

"President Trump is incredibly supportive of America's great servicemembers who risk their lives every day to keep our country safe", White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said after news got out.

The preliminary plan calls for Trump to be surrounded by Medal of Honor recipients and veterans in a viewing area.
