Adraee said that the Israeli military tanks destroyed a "monitoring point" of Hamas.

A picture taken on 15 February 2018 from the western Gaza strip border town of Rafah in shows a smoke plume rising on the Egyptian side of the border following an explosion.

Earlier Sunday, Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum responded to the IDF strikes in Gaza by blaming Israel for the escalation of tensions, without referring to the tunnels they were targeting. "The Hamas terrorist organization is responsible for everything happening in the Gaza Strip", the IDF said in a statement.

The tunnel, located in southern Israel, passed near the Kerem Shalom crossing between Israel and Gaza.

The deadly incursion in Gaza by Israeli forces predominantly featured operations to dismantle tunnelling operations as a main prong in their efforts to neutralize attacks stemming from Gaza; the other being rocket cross-border strikes. Workers for the Hamas terror organization, that runs Gaza, were attempting to reopen the tunnel and make it usable, according to the Israeli military.

Israel's Army Radio said that witnesses described the incident as a deliberate ramming attack.

"It is time for the worldwide community to recognize that the Gaza aid money is being buried underground", he added, addressing recent attempts at the United Nations to raise funds for Gaza, which is facing a severe humanitarian crisis. "I suggest Hamas invest its money in the welfare of the people of Gaza because by the end of the year its entire tunnel project will be destroyed". Hamas claimed that the tunnel had been built for the goal of smuggling goods into Gaza. Besides the tunnels, Israeli forces hit a factory for the manufacture of missiles and weapons in northern Gaza.

The tunnel was several hundred meters from Israel's border fence, near the Gazan city of Rafah, but Israeli military forces did not cross into Gaza to destroy it. News site on Saturday that his son was not affiliated with any terrorist organization, and that he did not believe his son intentionally targeted Israeli soldiers.
