"The British side is warned that in case of further unfriendly actions against Russia, the Russian side reserves the right to take further retaliatory measures", the ministry said.

"This crisis has arisen as a result of an appalling attack" in the United Kingdom involving "a chemical weapon developed in Russian Federation and not declared by Russian Federation at the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, as Russian Federation was and is obliged to do", Bristow told reporters in televised comments as he left the ministry.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday gave the 23 Russian diplomats - whom she described as undeclared intelligence officers - a week to leave, as she accused the Russian state of being "culpable" for the attack in Salisbury.

Besides, none have used nerve agents in the Russian Federation. Russian officials had previously said that Russia had destroyed the Novichok weapons when it had dismantled its chemical arsenal, which was completed past year.

Russia's response has also targeted the British Council, which promotes cultural ties. "But London must understand that this will not do anything, it is useless to talk with Russian Federation with such methods", Dzhabarov was quoted as saying by the state news agency RIA Novosti.

Russia has now denied that any program under the name Novichok ever existed, despite the evidence presented two decades ago by the Russian scientist Vil Mirzayanov, who revealed its existence after becoming concerned it violated Russia's commitments to the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Thumbing their nose at condemnation from the West, Russia social media users are mocking the United Kingdom in the wake of the attempted killings of a former spy and his daughter - widely believed to have been poisoned by Moscow. The pair remain in critical condition.

The British government has imposed sanctions on Russian Federation and expelled 23 diplomats in retaliation for the attack. It also said it is ordering the closure in Russian Federation of the British Council, a government-backed organization for cultural and scientific cooperation, and is ending an agreement to reopen the British consulate in St. Petersburg. She said Britain is taking a tough line because of frustration at recent advances of Russian-backed Syrian government forces against Western-backed rebels.

The British National Security Council will meet early next week to consider the next steps after Saturday's expulsion announcement.

Britain, the United States, Germany and France have jointly called on Russian Federation to explain the military-grade nerve toxin attack, which they said threatened Western security.

Russian Federation gave the British diplomats one week to leave.

Leaders in the U.S., France and Germany joined Great Britain to sign a statement condemning Russia's use of the poison Thursday and called on Moscow to explain how it came to be used on British soil.

Russian Federation is expected to announce the expulsion of some British diplomats in a retaliatory measure.

On Friday, British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said it was overwhelmingly likely that Russian President Vladimir Putin himself had made the decision to use a military-grade nerve toxin to strike down Mr Skripal.

Russia expelled 23 British diplomats on Saturday in a tit-for-tat response to the U.K.'s expulsion of 23 Russian embassy staff over the nerve-agent attack in England last week. The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons also says it expects action soon in response to the British investigation.

Putin's spokesman denounced the claim as "shocking and inexcusable".
