Since their launch in 2006, the distribution company has established a good working relationship with independent studios worldwide and distributing movies like "Wonder Women", "Doctor Strange", "Justice League", "Avengers", "AVATAR" all which are among the highest grossing movies ever produced in Hollywood. Kendrick Lamar's Black Panther soundtrack debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 its first week of release, and writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and artist Daniel Acuna are about to relaunch Marvel's Black Panther comic.

Now Black Panther has become not only the biggest Marvel movie ever, but the most successful superhero film of all time at the U.S. box office.

Even though Black Panther won't be at the top of the box office for six weekends in a row, the money raked in this weekend has sent the movie past $624 million on the domestic charts. Deadline lists the movie as taking in a whopping $630.9 million.

It's transcended the status of being a humble blockbuster, and has become a phenomenon. The movie started a new movement and a social touchstone that continues to earn at the box office, causing Disney to compete with itself. The discussions began while the movie was still in production when everybody involved discovered how electric it was on set. Much like Patty Jenkins with Wonder Woman, Coogler had only signed on to do one movie, which means he stands to make a lot of money when it comes time to make Black Panther 2. There's a lot to live up after the smash success. In just over a month, he'll be back atop the box office once more, when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters.

It's one of only seven movies to earn over $600 million in North America. And as if that weren't enough, T'Challa's Wednesday gross of $3M overseas lifted the Walt Disney Studios 2018 global box office past $1B.
