Future IPhones To Have Curved Screens And Touchless Controls

Gesture control may end up being akin to 3D Touch, Apple's way of using a display's pressure sensitivity to allow users to retrieve information and complete tasks on its devices.

If Apple is indeed working on a curved iPhone, it's unlikely that we'd see it within the next two years, so renders like this will be the best we'll get for the foreseeable future. The technology could be useful for augmented reality, which is where Apple has put in a lot of effort in the past couple of years.

Touchless gestures are also apparently on their way to an iPhone near you, and they could be implemented in two years at the earliest. In particular, smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung, Google, and Huawei are introducing features such as full screen, camera enhancement, and facial recognition, which have triggered the iPhone's differentiation strategy. This iPhone display would have a screen that curves inward gradually from the top to the bottom of the phone.

This is interesting. We actually know how this might look in reality thanks to LG's G Flex, which curved vertically instead of horizontally.

There aren't many curved-screen smartphones. But unlike the Samsung, Apple's implementation of the curved screen will be different.

But every iPhone to date has used a visibly flat display. The features are in the developmental and trial stages, this means it will take at least three to five years for the technology to come in iPhone. "The Instagram app for Apple Watch will no longer be available as a stand-alone experience once users upgrade to iOS version 39 of Instagram, released on April 2, 2018", an Instagram spokesman tells Fast Company. The company is also working on launching a lower-cost LCD model of iPhone.

On Wednesday, Bloomberg Technology's Mark Gurman reported on the newest work being done for the advanced features and design aspects for the Apple iPhone. But then Apple has as rich a history copying Samsung now as is the case with the reverse. Apple has already changed that notion by removing a home button altogether, but can a smartphone rely on gestures alone?
