The announcement was made via a statement by a party spokesperson, who quoted a letter written by leader Avi Gabbay to Corbyn.

It also comes at a time when tensions are high in Israel following the killing of Palestinian protesters by the Israeli Army on Israel's border with Gaza in recent days.

It adds: "While there are many areas where our respective parties can and will cooperate, we cannot retain relations with you, Leader of the Labour Party UK, while you fail to adequately address the anti-Semitism within Labour Party UK".

Avi Gabbay, chairman of Israel's Labor Party, sent a letter to Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the UK's Labour Party, announcing a suspension of ties between the Israeli Labor Party and Corbyn's office amid allegations Corbyn allowed for antisemitism in his party.

James Sorene, CEO of Israel and Middle East think tank BICOM said: "The Israeli Labour Party has been close to its United Kingdom sister party for decades. We remember fondly the warm relations that Prime Ministers Wilson, Blair, and Brown had with Israel's Labour Party, the State of Israel, and the Jewish community in the UK, along with the ongoing visits and friendship with many Labour Party UK MPs and Labour Israel MKs".

Writing to the leaders of the Board of Deputies of British Jews (BoD) and of the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC), Jonathan Arkush and Jonathan Goldstein respectively, Corbyn said he accepted the organizations' agenda for a meeting.

Corbyn is a staunch supporter of the Palestinians and had previously courted controversy by referring to Hamas and Hezbollah as "friends", something he later said that he regretted.

Last week, Corbyn attended a Passover Seder organized by a left-wing Jewish group that openly calls for Israel's destruction.

Hundreds protested against Labour's alleged anti-Semitism outside the party's headquarters and Parliament Square. In the past it has tweeted that "Israel is a steaming pile of sewage which needs to be properly disposed of". A 280-page report produced by David Collier, a UK-based blogger, revealed some of the past group activity which included one member stating that he was reading "Mein Kampf", whilst others used derogatory terms such as "ZioNazi" and "JewNazi" and debated whether Israel was involved in the 9/11 and Paris terror attacks. "Clearly this proves that the Jewish Labour Movement's work is more important than ever, and we're not going anywhere".

In his letter, Mr Gabbay, the leader of Israel's main opposition party, hails its "long history of friendship" with UK Labour.

"He has failed to respond to their repeated offers of dialogue, including invitations to host him at Yad Vashem, Israel's national Holocaust Museum".
