"The Prime Minister will observe a fast even while engaged in his official duty and official engagements", BJP spokesperson G.V.L. Narsimha Rao told IANS.

Without naming any political party, Modi said there are people who don't want any improvement in the condition of the poor as they feel it would become hard to mislead financially weaker sections if the government succeeds in its efforts to uplift the poor. They didn't let Parliament work for a single day.

Prime Minister Modi will observe a day-long fast over disruptions during the budget session of Parliament.

BJP chief Amit Shah, who is diabetic and hence advised against fasting, will hold a two-hour dharna at Huballi in poll-bound Karnataka on Thursday.

Speaking in the presence of Saudi Arabian Oil Minister, Khalid A. Al-Falih, Mr. Modi said, "It is in the interest of oil producers that consuming markets grow".

According to media reports, Home Minister Rajnath Singh would fast in Lucknow and Roads Minister Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur.

"Despite repeated failures in derailing and disruting the development model of the Prime Minister, the opposition has been constantly disrupting Parliament and not allowing the government to bring important legislations which are aimed at making India a stronger and better nation", the BJP said in a statement. Many other Ministers will travel to various places across the country to observe the fast. Health minister JP Nadda will hold a sit-in at PM Modi's parliamentary constituency, Varanasi.

The protests were mainly staged by opposition parties in the parliament over a range of issues which includes Punjab National Bank scam, Cauvery river water, special status for Andhra Pradesh.

On Friday, Modi had accused Congress of resorting to divisive politics and announced BJP's hunger strike as a protest. While observing fast, Modi will not disturb his daily official routine of meeting people and officials, and clearing files, sources said.

"They (opposition) are creating hurdles in the work of the government from the streets to Parliament".
