The White House said yesterday Mr Trump had spoken to the Turkish leader about his concerns and they had agreed to stay in "close contact".

The phone conversation occurred after Trump warned Russian Federation, which supports Syria's Bashar al-Assad government, saying US missiles "will be coming" in response to the alleged chemical attack that reportedly killed dozens of people in Douma.

Presidential sources said that the two leaders agreed to maintain the dialogue.

The White Helmets organization in Eastern Ghouta alleged that the Syrian regime forces carried out a chemical attack in Douma district, killing dozens of people.

But Turkey and Russian Federation in recent months have put their differences aside and have been working closely to find a political solution to the conflict.

Turkish Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli said that both Russian Federation and the USA are on the wrong side in Syria.

Turkey has backed Anti-Assad forces, as Russian Federation and Iran heavily support the Syrian president. If there's any Russian (or Iranian or North Korean) dense enough to still keep assets in these United States, maybe they don't really care about them.

The current situation in the Kurdish-dominated Syrian city of Afrin remains quite tense since it went under the full control of the Turkish military forces in late March as a result of its military offensive in the area dubbed Olive Branch.

He added that the use of Turkey's air bases during the potential strike against the regime will be discussed with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, who will arrive in Ankara on an official visit Monday. On Wednesday, Trump warned Russian Federation, saying U.S. missiles "will be coming", after Moscow reportedly vowed to shoot down missiles.

Meanwhile, Erdoğan also touched upon developments in the fight against the PKK terrorist group and its offshoots in Syria, said at least 4,123 terrorists had been neutralized since the launch of Operation Olive Branch in northwestern Syria's Afrin.
