Once again, all modes of severe weather will be possible, including the threat of tornadoes. All modes of severe weather will be fair game, including the possibility of very large hail, damaging wind gusts, and tornadoes.

On Wednesday, a little more than half of the state, stretching from just west of Salina, east into Missouri, north into Nebraska and south well into Oklahoma is in an enhanced threat fro severe storms that could bring large hail up to near three inches in diameter, wind gusts of up to about 70 miles per hour and isolated tornadoes.

A tornado watch has been issued until late Tuesday night for 40 counties in central Kansas, including portions of the Wichita metropolitan area.

"We can extrapolate that to the Northern Plains, as well", Ewens said, "and see fewer storms, fewer tornadoes, fewer hail events". All is quiet right now, but strong to severe storms are still expected to begin flaring up late in the afternoon into the evening. The watch is in effect until 10 p.m.

Now is the time to prepare for severe weather later today.

Populated areas, including Omaha and parts of Kansas City, will be impacted. The precise magnitude and location of the most-severe weather remains questionable due to the evolution of storms overnight.

Minneapolis reached 80 degrees on Monday, the first time since September.

North Dakota recognizes this week as Severe Summer Weather Awareness Week - a reminder that severe weather is not far away. After a cool April morning in the I-95 corridor, temperatures are going to rise into the 70s for most, including New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. For some of this region it will be almost 25 degrees warmer today than it was Monday. Temperatures stay warm though, with highs still getting into the 70s and 80s.
