"I've been made aware that a security engineer now employed at Facebook is likely using privileged access to stalk women online".
On Sunday, cybersecurity consultant Jackie Stokes tweeted out a Tinder conversation that appeared to show a Facebook employee bragging about their ability to obtain data on users.
The social networking giant responded by saying it had strict controls in place to restrict employee access to user data based on job function.
He added that Stokes, who works in cybersecurity, was "hard to find lol".
"Although we can't comment on any individual personnel matters", a Facebook spokesperson wrote in an email, "we are aware of the situation and investigating".
The latest controversy to hit the USA social networking giant first emerged on Monday, after a screenshot was posted online which purported to show the individual boasting of being a "professional stalker".
'We are investigating this as a matter of urgency, ' Alex Stamos, Chief Security Officer at Facebook, said in a statement to NBC News.
A Twitter user earlier on Wednesday posted about the Tinder conversation along with screenshots, saying Facebook's security engineer is "likely using privileged access to stalk women online".
As a company that seems to be involved in scandals stemming from the abuse of its privileged access to user data, Facebook is no stranger to criticisms over how deep it set its hooks into people's lives.
