Local election results show mixed results for Tories and Labour

Council election results for Berkshire Local election results show mixed results for Tories and Labour

Across England, more than 4,000 seats were contested in around 150 councils, including all 32 London boroughs, as well as every ward in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle.

In a busy night of local election results across the region, the biggest news comes from Trafford where Sean Anstee's Conservatives have lost control of the council.

Labour's Ellie Emberson, 19, made history when she won Minster ward, becoming the youngest woman ever elected to the council.

Against those high expectations, Labour will be disappointed this morning even though by any objective measure the party is doing really well across the capital with many more boroughs still to...

LABOUR have increased their majority on Bradford Council by gaining four seats, in Shipley, Bolton & Undercliffe.

He also took the opportunity to take a swipe at Labour - blaming them for allowing the Conservatives to maintain overall control.

Labour now has 17 seats with the Conservatives on 16 and the Green Party one.

The Labour Party missed some of its main targets and lost control of councils in some smaller towns while Theresa May's Conservatives scraped by with relatively few big losses in the U.K.'s Thursday local elections, according to early results.

Labour's Ashley Minto polled 1525, the Greens' Jenny Barnes 297 and James Read for the Lib Dems 266.

Hillingdon remained in Conservative hands and Mr Corbyn's party fell well short of the upsets some had predicted in Tory strongholds Wandsworth, Westminster and Kensington.

Leading pollster Sir John Curtice, professor of politics at the University of Strathclyde, said there was little for Labour to celebrate in the results.

Labour has ten seats, the Liberal Democrats seven, the Green Party two, and there are two Independents.

There is now the question as to who will lead Trafford Council.

The Conservatives held control of the symbolic London borough of Wandsworth, results on Friday confirmed, defying some predictions that it could fall to Labour.

Describing the turnout as "very, very disappointing", he added: "I think people have got election fatigue and I think also there is a slight disenfranchment with politicians generally".

The Tories also gained three seats. "These aren't the results of a party that's about to storm the next general election".

"Pallion in particular I have to highlight, as just months ago it was the leader's ward and in the space of however many months it's now a majority Lib Dem ward with our strongest vote share in the city".
