19-year-old sentenced to death for killing husband over rape

Teenager sentenced to death for killing unwanted husband Activists Take To Twitter As Teenager Is Sentenced To Death For Killing Unwanted Husband

In recent years, women and children's rights activists in Sudan have campaigned against forced unions and marriage of underage girls, a widespread phenomenon in a country where the law allows children over the age of 10 to marry.

The court is full.

A teen bride in Sudan has been sentenced to hang for stabbing the man she was forced to marry - after he raped her while his cousins held her down. Al-Imam volunteered to represent the teen after her original lawyer took themselves off the case.

Hussien's legal team has 15 days to appeal the sentence, as her husband's family rejected the possibility of financial compensation and chose execution when the judge asked them what they want to happen, according to a supporter who attended the hearing and posted the details on the Twitter.

Petitions appealing for Norma's release such as Change.org and Avaaz.com are being widely circulated on social media platforms and have gathered tens of thousands of signatures.

Hammad was married against her wish to Abdulrahman Hammad at the age of 16, with the first ceremony involving the signing of a marriage contract between her father and her husband, Amnesty International said in a statement on Thursday.

A day later her husband tried to rape her again, and she stabbed him to death. While CNN reports one of Noura's lawyers, Dr. Adil Mohamed Al-Imam, said she was abandoned by both the law and her family, many are standing with her.

Noura Hussein had no desire to get married.

Girl's lawyer told reporters that the father Nura persuaded her to return home, but as soon as she returned home, it was immediately handed over to the legal wife.

Hussein, whose family has disowned her, was found guilty of premeditated murder in April and sentenced to death on Thursday. A team of Sudanese activists are organising a protest at the US Capitol in Washington on Saturday.

"The case of Noura is different".

Because Noura was a victim of rape, many are calling for her release, and for her not to be punished at all. "The death penalty is the ultimate cruel, inhuman, and degrading punishment, and to apply it to a rape victim only highlights the failure of the Sudanese authorities to acknowledge the violence she endured".
