With Tuesday's election day looming ever closer, among the decisions voters will be making at the polls are the proposed 2018-2019 school budgets for the Waverly and Tioga Central school districts.

In the Troy City School District, voters will decide upon a $111,893,389 budget, with a tax levy of $36, 832,473. Polls are open into the evening in all districts from Montauk to Bridgehampton.

Residents need to to refer to their local districts for times and locations for voting.

The capital project calls for several energy-efficiency improvements in all buildings; safety and security upgrades; mechanical upgrades in all buildings; a new multi-purpose turf athletic field and a pool renovation at the high school/middle school complex; and technology-related upgrades for educational facilities.

Voting takes place from 2 to 8 p.m.at the Amagansett School.

More than two dozen local districts have votes and none of Monroe County's school districts are looking to go above the state tax cap.

The proposed budget is available in the district's administration office for public review. These tax estimates are based on current information.

In Hampton Bays, voters will be asked to cast ballots approving its proposed $52.5 million operating budget for the 2018-19 school year.

Voters will choose four candidates to serve on the Board of Education. Shawn Smeltzer, is seeking a first term on the Board of Education.

The proposed spending plan also contains a $10 per capita tax, a one percent earned income tax, which is shared with municipalities; and a $52 emergency municipal service tax, from which the district receives $5 and participating communities are allotted $47.

The proposed 2 percent hike in the local property tax levy is less than the 2.68 percent increase that would be allowable for the district under state tax-cap formulas, Assistant Superintendent for Business Karl Keil Jr.

According to a Kershaw County School District press release issued early Friday morning, the school board conducted initial interviews this week for the position in an effort to find candidates who best fit the leadership profile developed using input from previous meetings with employees and community members as well as an online survey. The three-year ConnectED grant has a value of $432,000.
