Yanny or Laurel? What do you hear? Soundbite leaves netizens confused

No this is not the Yanni you think you're hearing No this is not the Yanni you think you're hearing

It's because the audio clip has two different sounding words at different frequencies.

So now we ask, what do you hear, Laurel or Yanny? Same works in reverse by cutting out the high frequencies with a Low Pass Filter.

The audio file in question has taken social media by storm, putting countless people at odds over what exactly is being said.

Whatever you hear, all you need to do is jump on Twitter to see some of the hilarious reactions.

But he said it was also more hard to determine the word in this particular recording because it is "not real speech". Is it Yanni or Laurel? His classmates could not agree on what word they were hearing. Szabo, 18, played the recorded vocabulary.com clip through his computer speakers for a school project, the New York Times reports.

The audio clip was picked up by Reddit on May 12 - specifically, on a post by RolandCamry at the suitably titled subreddit r/blackmagicf**kery. On Tuesday evening, Feldman said in a video that she was fielding multiple interview requests and searching for the original creator. "Is the person more of a high-pitched voice or a low-pitched voice?"

"It just depends on the audio and the equipment that you're using", he said.

They said older adults tend to start losing their hearing at the higher frequency ranges. We also now know from recent research that the superior temporal gyrus is extremely important for hearing pitch.

The brain and ear together makes a quite a toolset, selectively listening and/or blocking what we hear. In the meantime, baffle your friends and astound your enemies, until the next random internet phenomenon has you doubting your own senses.
