What to expect at Apple's WWDC 2018

What to expect at Apple's WWDC 2018 What to expect at Apple's WWDC 2018

As always, Apple will be live-streaming the event, so you can catch the event right from your home. New additions could include a way to track and set limits for time spent on certain apps.

If we're lucky, the conference might also include some more information about some new additions to the MacBook lineup, as a new MacBook Air has been slated for release some time this year. Similar to Google's Android Dashboard, Apple's Digital Health tools would help combat phone "addiction" and give parents more granular tools to monitor their kids' phone use. Although there was little specificity from Bloomberg, Reuters stepped in this afternoon to report that Apple will introduce iPhone-to-iPhone Augmented Reality. The app selection on the product remains limited, but it's important for Apple to keep working on new features for a device that's the centerpiece of its living-room strategy so far.

Exactly what Apple plans with its smart assistant Siri is not 100 percent clear, but as SiliconANGLE reported May 21, there's a strong possibility that Apple may be announcing enhanced conversational artificial intelligence for the service. It is also the technology used in Pokemon Go mobile game. A cheaper HomePod, under the Beats branding, has been hinted at by some, but is unlikely to appear. In April, it poached a top Google executive to lead its machine learning and AI efforts. Perhaps there might be some changes in the menu interface or performance improvements.

The iOS App Store has been a huge money maker for Apple, and for its developers. The company has said it wants to help users develop healthier relationships with its flagship product. What we can see is that the iPhone SE 2 notch is considerably smaller than the iPhone X notch, as has been suggested by previous leaks.

Let's start with the most obvious stuff first.

It wouldn't just be the CEO speaking from his heart.

Whatever the WWDC 2018 keynote announcements may be, the software updates likely won't be available for a few months.

Facebook's Cambridge Analytica scandal and the roll-out of strict new GDPR privacy laws in the European Union have finally managed to get consumers thinking about privacy. Ideally, GDPR-level control for users should become standard for all apps across Apple's multiple operating systems. Monday's preview could include more on that front.
