Samantha Bee claims she 'uncovered' the NYT's Stephen Miller interview audio

Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO) called out President Donald Trump on Thursday for his disastrous border policy and even called on the White House to fire a top adviser.

What triggered the latest controversy surrounding the microblogging site is a story titled "Here's Stephen Miller's Cell Phone Number, If You Need It" published by Gizmodo Media Group-owned news and opinion site Splinter.

"Hey look guys, whoever thought we'd be in a restaurant with a real-life fascist begging [for] money for new cages?" a customer at the D.C. restaurant Espita Mezcaleria shouted at Miller on Sunday. So news website Splinter responded Wednesday by publishing his personal phone number, suggesting readers "call him about it". That could have been a huge danger, as there are a lot of people who are angry at Miller over the cruel policies he has reportedly pushed inside the White House.

"While Miller's comments were on the record, we realized that the ground rules for the original interview were not clear, and so we made a decision not to run the audio", The Times said in a statement posted on Twitter.

Users who shared Miller's number were forced to delete the tweet and had their accounts locked out for several hours.

Miller is one of the public faces of the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" border policy and defended separating children from their parents, which the White House has since abandoned. Twitter's guidelines say users "may not publish or post other people's private information without their express authorization and permission". At this time, the number that was previously being shared is no longer a valid number and, as such, we are no longer enforcing our policy against individuals Tweeting or linking to that information.
