It will not be an easy game for Nigeria since Argentina have good players but confidence will be high in the camp of the African side.

"I am convinced that tomorrow we will write a new page in the national team's history books", said Sampaoli in his Monday press conference, as per Marca.

Jorge Sampaoli's men are facing a group-stage exit in Russian Federation after collecting just one point from their opening two games.

On Tuesday, in the moments before the game against Nigeria, the young players in the Argentina squad who are at their first World Cup will need to know they can follow these guys.

It means Argentina must beat Nigeria - they have done so four times previously at World Cups - to retain any hope of the Barcelona superstar embellishing his magnificent career with the sport's greatest prize.

Is Messi about to play his final match for Argentina?

Argentina has had a disappointing run at the FIFA World Cup 2018 thus far, losing one to Croatia and settling for a tame draw against Iceland.

This is the most important game in Messi's career as Argentina face Nigeria in the last round of group fixtures in the FIFA World Cup 2018.

But if they manage to win the game against Croatia, which is highly unlikely, then it will be another uphill struggle for La Albiceleste.

"I get the feeling there's a general anger at the heart of the team", said Argentina's legendary 1986 World Cup-winning captain Diego Maradona.

Javier Mascherano also attempted to defuse any suggestion that they had demanded Sampaoli ditch his favoured three-man defence in an attempt to improve the service to Lionel Messi, who has yet to score in Russian Federation.

No official change has been made, but now TyC reports that the president of Argentina's soccer federation, Claudio Tapia, is supporting the players in their attempt to wrest control of the team away from Sampaoli.

The formation he used against Croatia, a 3-4-3, was one he had used successfully with Chile, but it did not seem to suit the characteristics of our players.

"I would love of course to swap jerseys with him but I would love to swap jerseys with many players in the Argentinean side".
