As celebrations rage, and ahead of the team's next bout, you may have noticed lots of United Kingdom fans saying, "It's coming home". But first, a bit of context.

"Three Lions" is back in the charts, the sun is out and football fever has gripped the country.

The song was released in 1996, when England hosted the European Football Championship, to poke fun at the lack of global tournament success the country had experienced since winning the World Cup in 1966. The following are our favourites thus far.

The line comes from a song called Three Lions (Football's Coming Home) performed by comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner, and Ian Broudie of the Lightning Seeds in 1996 to mark the European Championships that were being held in England that year.

Throw it away Gonna blow it away But I know they can play 'Cause I remember.

This year marks the first time England has qualified for the semi-final round of the World Cup tournament since 1990, when it lost on penalties to West Germany in Italy, the Daily Express reported.

Safe to say that royal fans were delighted by the Duke of Cambridge's outburst of national pride, and his tweet has since been liked over 40,000 times with plenty of replies praising him for his words. Football could actually be coming home.

"You wanted to make history, England, and you are doing just that".

Talk about spreading the England cheer on the other side of the pond!

Pedantic? Sure, but hey, that's what it's called, and as England march on through a fairly unchallenging World Cup path to glory, it's a touch irritating seeing it misused en masse.

On whether he has taken anything from the World Cup to use in his management career with the Hatters, Jones added: "Of course, it's part and parcel of your coaching career, you always look at different people and how they coach, how they set teams up. And yet, as I sat in Frank Skinner's living room watching England play Sweden - the team confidence and spirit so clearly there, Harry Maguire's and Dele Alli's headers sealing the day, Jordan Pickford a god among men - I started to experience a unusual new feeling".

Indeed, when even the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is forced to admit it's coming home, then you know the battle is already won.
