This graphic from the National Hurricane Center shows the projected path of Tropical Storm Chris.

The orange circle indicates the current position of the center of Tropical Storm Chris. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour.

Elsewhere, the remnants of storm Beryl were producing strong gusty winds and areas of heavy rain over the north-central Caribbean Sea, Hispaniola, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

It already is the season's third named tropical storm; something that on average doesn't occur until August 13.

GREENSBORO, NC -Tropical Depression Three has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Chris.

The curfew which was imposed along with the state of emergency was also lifted. While the storm could strengthen into a category 1 hurricane, Chris will not be a threat to the local North Florida and South Georgia area.

Long lines were reported outside grocery stores on the islands of Dominica, Puerto Rico and other islands as people stock up on food and water, AP reported.

Chris is the third tropical system of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season.

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello said at a news conference Sunday afternoon that the island could experience power outages when the storm's remnants passed over on Monday.

Meteorologist Odalys Martinez said in a phone interview that conditions in Puerto Rico would deteriorate late Sunday, with up to 3 inches (8 centimeters) of rain possible.

McNoldy noted the simultaneous presence of two July tropical storms, Beryl and Chris, hasnt happened since 2011, when Bret and Cindy roamed the Atlantic.

It notes that "there is a good deal of uncertainty at this time in the forecast track and intensity of this system" but expects that if the track stays as forecast that it will begin to issue storm bulletins starting Tuesday morning.

"So it is critically important that we keep an eye on friends, family and neighbours who may be at risk".
