George Clooney was taken to hospital for treatment after a motorcycle accident in Sardinia, Italian media has reported.

Clooney was taken to the emergency room where he reportedly underwent an MRI after suffering a slight trauma to his pelvis and bruises on a leg and arm. No irregularities were found in a scan and Clooney left the hospital at 10 a.m. local time.

His wife Amal, a human rights lawyer, rushed to Clooney's side in hospital, according to local newspaper La Nuova Sardegna, who reported he was later discharged and advised to follow a course of physiotherapy. While it's possible that these details are rather exaggerated, considering TMZ's history of treating rumors as facts, there have been enough reports to verify that Clooney's accident was quite serious.

Clooney, 57, plays U.S. Air Force commander Scheisskopf in the World War II drama based on Joseph Heller's classic novel, according to the BBC.

Clooney has had a home on the Italian mainland, on Lake Como, for many years. If Clooney would have been seriously injured, the driver would have become public enemy number one. "He is recovering at his home and will be fine".

He was staying in a lush, gated rental villa in the high-end Puntaldia neighbourhood on Sardinia's northeastern coast, which overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Mannoni said police are looking into the causes of the accident.

The two were married in 2014 at the Aman Canal Grande resort in Venice, Italy.

He was treated and released, hospital officials said.

"The statement came after NBC News reporter Claudio Lavanga tweeted Tuesday morning, "#carabinieri in Olbia tell @NBCNews 'At 08am @georgeclooney was riding his scooter on the State Road 125 towards Olbia.
