Wimbledon 2018: Serena Williams to face Angelique Kerber in women's final

Williams says the problems she faced after giving birth have left her in constant fear of new complications arising with a pulmonary embolism.

Williams isn't taking her time at Wimbledon for granted, noting in a post-game interview that she "didn't expect to do this well in my fourth tournament back".

I don't have anything to lose and I feel I can play so free. "I'm just enjoying every moment", Williams added.

This will be Williams' 10th final at the All England Club, according to Wimbledon, putting her in position to tie Margaret Court's all-time record of 24 Grand Slam titles.

The 30-year-old hit only 10 winners but that was all it took to get the job done as Latvian 12th seed Ostapenko shot herself in the foot with 36 unforced errors.

And, while there were plenty of doubters when Williams spluttered in the first matches of her return to action earlier this year, somehow it was never in doubt that this latest chapter in Serena's life would have a happy ending. I can see it going a little like their 2016 match at Wimbledon where it's tight in the beginning, but Serena wins in straight sets.

Yet, for all her astonishing achievements, winning Wimbledon with a baby in tow would be arguably her greatest moment.

The 36-year year old triumphantly returned to the grass courts of Wimbledon to reach the tournament final since returning from the enforced layoff.

"Serena is one of the best players in the world", said Kerber, who could become the first German to lift the Wimbledon trophy since Steffi Graf in 1996.

"It's no secret I had a super tough delivery".

An avid tennis fan, Kate has attended nearly every year since becoming a royal, is patron of The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, and famously had a tennis court built at her Amner Hall home.

"Mostly, the hardest part was mentally letting go of a lot of mommy things in order to fully be 100 percent into tennis", Williams said. Kerber did not dictate much, content to let 2017 French Open champion Ostapenko determine the outcome of almost every point.

Serena had lost only one of her 10 previous Wimbledon semi-finals and the 11th followed a familiar script.

She has been at the top for a generation, since she beat Martina Hingis aged 17 in the 1999 US Open final.

In the most one-sided of Serena's Wimbledon finals, she needed just 66 minutes to demolish the out-classed Vera Zvonareva.

Making a mockery of Wimbledon's decision to seed her a lowly 25th, Williams has powered through the draw, getting stronger with each match.

Williams has improved round by round at SW19 over the past two weeks and her power was a joy to behold as surprisesemi-finalist Goerges was beaten 6-2 6-4.

At 181st in the world, Williams is technically the lowest ranked player to reach the women's final - although given her stellar record, it's a statistic that is unlikely to carry much weight.

"So if she wins one now, I think she will get another two, three or four most probably". "It's not inevitable for me to be playing like this". There was a time I could barely walk to my mailbox.

A game built on rugged defense, counter-punching and a tricky leftie serve gives her a chance of throwing Williams off her relentless stride.
