We already knew Harley-Davidson was planning to sell an electric motorcycle, presumably some iteration of the Livewire design, by 2020.

For starters, Harley-Davidson will continue to develop improved, more technologically-advanced Touring and Cruiser motorcycles that will keep existing Harley-Davidson riders engaged and riding longer.

"The plan centres on bold new product introductions and is largely geared to expanding Harley's appeal in faster-growth worldwide markets", William Blair analyst Sharon Zackfia said.

The move is aimed at expediting market entry and increase brand access and volume and the new product would serve as a bridge to the company's larger motorcycles.

Laying out a plan it calls "More Roads to Harley-Davidson", the company expects to spend $675 million United States to $825 million U.S. over the next four years, looks to chop costs and generate more than $1 billion USA of incremental annual revenue in 2022.

To appeal to this growing market, the company said it will develop smaller bikes with 250 to 500 cubic-centimetre engines created to be more accessible in those regions.

'I would be more inclined to buy it than I would a traditional motorcycle, ' said Ms Kay, 25, adding that she rode a moped in high school and college and thinks the smaller, electric models would be easier to navigate in the city.

Harley-Davidson has confirmed plans to launch its first electric motorbike next year.

To help bring their bikes to more riders, the company is also targeting an update of the company web portal and new retail formats like smaller urban stores.

Sales have fallen in the past year, and Harley-Davidson stock has declined 15 percent so far this year.

Rather, Harley - which recently said it would close a factory in Missouri to concentrate manufacturing in the USA - is up against three distinct challenges.

Speaking to CNBC's Morgan Brennan in an interview on Monday, Levatich called the president's recent tweets against Harley-Davidson "unfortunate attention".

Harley will be developing a new flexible architecture to spawn motorcycles from 500-1250 cc segments while the 250-500 cc bikes in the pipeline will appeal for the masses in India. Another key part of this bold project is partnering with an Indian manufacturer to create a "small displacement motorcycle bridge" for HD.

Harley-Davidson's all-new custom motorcycle with a muscular stance, aggressive, stripped down styling and 1250cc of pure performance, is planned to be released in 2021.
