Bob Evans Restaurants removed ads featuring Urban Meyer from its website Thursday, hours after the Ohio State football coach was placed on paid leave amid an investigation into a former assistant coach's alleged domestic abuse.

Courtney Smith concedes that she does not know if Shelley Meyer ever told her husband about the allegations.

While Meyer is on leave, offensive coordinator Ryan Day will serve as head coach.

At the time of Smith's firing, Urban Meyer said he never knew about the domestic violence, and that if he had he would have fired Smith a long time ago. If we're to believe what Urban Meyer said last week, his wife kept quiet about the whole affair, not even bothering to mention at the dinner table, "Hey, you've got an assistant coach who might have a problem". "I said: 'That's fine, you should tell Urban'".

Meyer said at an appearance in July that he was not aware of the situation until recently, CBS Sports reports.

Since returning to coaching, Meyer's program has been one of the most dominant in college football, and his players have mostly stayed out of major trouble.

Zach Smith had been on Meyer's staff since Meyer's days at the University of Florida, but he was sacked last week after McMurphy dug up multiple police reports alleging domestic violence against Zach Smith.

The extension signed on 27 March added a requirement to Meyer's contract that he immediately report any "known violations" of Ohio State's sexual misconduct policy.

Courtney sat down with Stadium to talk about what role Urban Meyer and his wife, Shelley, should have had in intervening. Meyer will continue to collect his $7.6 million annual salary. In 2009, Smith was arrested on a charge that Courtney Smith later dropped.

Zach Smith was sacked on July 23 after he was served a civil protection order on behalf of Courtney Smith. As the Buckeyes played that season under interim coach Luke Fickell, the only story line that mattered was Ohio State's six-month courtship of Meyer, who was sitting out the season to hit the reset button on his health and career after "retiring" from Florida. Most troubling, that includes an alleged incident of domestic abuse on October 25, 2015, shortly before the couple divorced.
