Trump just made two problematic admissions about the Trump Tower meeting

President Donald Trump is concerned about whether his son Donald Trump Jr. might have exposure in the special counsel's Russian Federation investigation, leading to his increasingly frenzied public agitation over Robert Mueller, sources close to the White House tell CNN.

The Washington Post reported that Trump had expressed concerns in the past week about his son Donald Trump Jr's legal exposure from the 2016 Trump Tower meeting.

He continued: "This was a meeting to get information on an opponent, totally legal and done all the time in politics - and it went nowhere".

He concluded by further distancing himself from the meeting his son arranged, writing, "I did not know about it!"

It's "absurd" for special counsel Robert Mueller to reportedly examine President Donald Trump's tweets for evidence of obstruction of justice, Trump lawyer Jay Sekulow insisted Sunday. It's not surprising, then, that Mueller's investigators have told Trump's lawyers that they want to ask him what he knew about the Trump Tower meeting at the time. When the story of the meeting broke wide open in July of previous year, Trump Jr. quickly issued a statement - which was dictated by his father - that the meeting had been about Russian adoption.

Trump Jr.'s testimony to Congress contained a similar defense as his father's Sunday tweet, indicating that he saw no reason not to accept a meeting that could yield important information about Clinton, even though he was told that it was part of an effort by the government of a hostile power.

In an interview on ABC News' "This Week", Sekulow cited the president's most recent post calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to "stop this rigged witch hunt", saying it is well within Trump's constitutional rights.

While Sekulow had originally claimed that the President has no hand in the Trump Tower meeting, it was later revealed that Trump himself dictated the statement.

Trump and his son have both said then-candidate Trump had no advance knowledge of the meeting and that the meeting itself was not useful to the campaign. The surprising claim in Trump's tweet is that it is legal for a campaign to get information from a foreign entity about a political opponent. Also, Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani confirmed that there was a preparation meeting that occurred between Trump's campaign team on June 7th, the same day as the speech announcement.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is investigating United States intelligence findings that Russians conspired to sway the election in Mr Trump's favour.

"Well, the question is, how would it be illegal?"

Donald Trump and his son Donald Trump, Jr.at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Wednesday, July 20, 2016.

"When you look at a meeting that took place a year before - now two years ago - the question is, what law, statute, rule or regulation's been violated, and nobody's pointed to one", Sekulow added.

Still, the attorney said, Trump is "no dummy". "You then misled the country about the objective of the Trump Tower meeting when it became public". Her unannounced presence raised some eyebrows as Hicks has been interviewed by Mueller and was part of the team of staffers that helped draft the original statement on the Trump Tower meeting. "We are fully confident of the accuracy and reliability of the information that has been provided by Donald Trump Jr.in the various investigations". Trump has seethed against what he feels are trumped-up charges against his former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, whose trial began last week and provided a visible reminder of Mueller's work.

Also, if any Americans aided in disseminating the Russian hacked data, then they could be roped in as co-conspirators in Mueller's indictment of 12 Russian intelligence officers (GRU) for hacking the DNC, DCCC, and Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign during the 2016 election and leaking through DCLeaks and Guccifer 2.0. Mueller was appointed to take over the probe after the firing.
