The Mendocino Complex Fire began a little more than a week ago with two neighboring fires burning through only 9,500 acres of land, then rapidly spreading - at one point, by almost 30,000 acres within hours.

"There have been no issues getting water from them", Scott McLean, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire, told me. Add to this aircraft from across California, not just prop tankers, but DC-10s, C-130s and of course the famous Tanker 944 the 747 supertanker, and one begins to see the enormous financial cost of fighting the fire, not to mention the huge loss of property, and cost of rebuilding.

That system, a combination of the Ranch Fire and the River Fire, totals more than 250,000 acres about 100 miles north of San Francisco.

Trump may be referring to state and federal laws that place water allocations to protect fish and wildlife on equal standing with irrigation and urban user supplies.

But Cal Fire officials said there has not been a situation where crews needed water and couldn't access it.

The Mendocino Complex is now considered the sixth-largest wildfire in California history. The southern perimeter of the River Fire has been contained and controlled for several days.

More than 127 wildfires are burning in 11 Western states, taxing civilian resources. "Must also tree clear to stop fire from spreading!"

Elsewhere in California, evacuations were ordered for cabins in Cleveland National Forest canyons in Orange County on Monday afternoon after a blaze broke out and quickly spread to span 700 acres (283 hectares).

The deadly Carr Fire, burning north of Mendocino in and around the city of Redding, claimed its seventh fatality, a Pacific Gas & Electric worker, on Saturday.

"California wildfires are being magnified & made so much worse by the bad environmental laws which aren't allowing massive amount of readily available water to be properly utilized", he tweeted Sunday.

California has long had problems with fires during the summer but climate change has been blamed for the hotter weather and extremely dry vegetation which have aided them. ZACA FIRE (Santa Barbara County), July 2007 Acres burned: Structures destroyed: Deaths: 7. The number one spot belongs to last year's Thomas Fire, which burned 281,893 acres.

It has claimed more than 1,600 buildings, a lot of them homes.

NORTHCOM's National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) in Boise, Idaho, has estimated that more than 127 wildfires are burning on about 1.6 million acres in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona and Alaska.

The Carr Fire, which incinerated 1,067 homes, started with sparks from the steel wheel of a towed-trailer's flat tire, Department of Agriculture and Fire Prevention officials said.

Another blaze that ignited last week in the Sierra Nevada has damaged a historic Northern California resort in the Stanislaus National Forest.

Firefighters had managed to contain 45 percent of the Carr blaze by Monday morning, and authorities were letting some evacuees return. Four of the state's largest six fires have occurred since 2012.
