China says US solar tariffs violate trade rules, lodges WTO complaint

The solar duties are separate from tariff hikes imposed by the Trump administration starting in July on Chinese imports in response to complaints Beijing steals or pressures companies to hand over technology. The U.S. president has recently threatened more tariffs on Canada's auto industry.
In the latest development, Turkey announced Wednesday that it will increase tariffs on US imports including rice, vehicles, alcohol, coal and cosmetics, in response to Trump's decision last Friday to double the tariffs on Turkish steel and aluminum.

Another round of USA tariff hikes on $16 billion of Chinese goods is due to take effect August 23.
