Sergio Ramos declared that his conscience was clear over the foul on Mohamed Salah that took the Liverpool striker out the Champions League final in May as the Real Madrid captain prepares to make his first appearance in England since that game.

The Spanish centre-back is in England for their game against England in the Nations Cup but the incident with Salah remains firmly on his lips as he once again protested his innocence.

David De Gea appears set to remain Spain's first-choice goalkeeper after new coach Luis Enrique insisted he "never had any doubts" about the question of who should be No. 1 for the national side.

"I think that is something the press said", he said.

The team has had plenty of success in the last ten years, winning the 2008 Euro, 2012 Euro and 2010 World Cup.

Former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique spoke warmly of the 32-year-old at his own briefing and Ramos was keen to return the compliment.

It's been a stark change to how things were conducted under Julen Lopetegui, the coach fired two days before the World Cup for accepting a job with Real Madrid without telling federation officials in advance. I'm not going to be affected by that at all.

New objective: "The fact that we have been a reference during the last decade means everyone knows the national team. I hope we can absorb all the knowledge that he brings to the team".

Ramos: "He is the player with the most personality on and off the field for Spain".

"I always try to give the best of me for the good of the team".

" I know there will be difficulties and challenges but it is just great to be here".

The new coach's press appearances so far suggest he will carry that same edge felt by the journalist two years ago into worldwide management, and it remains to be seen whether it proves a source of unification or alienation amongst his players.
