Kavanaugh to Get Senate Vote This Week, McConnell Says

"I, for one, am waiting for the additional information that will come from the supplemental FBI investigation to inform me", Flake said. After he and accuser Christine Blasey Ford sat for hours of emotional testimony Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday voted to advance the nomination - but Flake, who sits on the committee, had changed his mind after announcing support for Kavanaugh that morning and called for a weeklong FBI investigation into the claims.

"Any nominee that lies to the committee, that is disqualifying", Flake told reporters after delivering a speech in New Hampshire, the state that hosts the nation's first presidential primary election. "And some of our colleagues said that 'we'll be back here one week from now".

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY said on the Senate floor that Kavanaugh's statements at the hearing show he harbors "deep partisan resentments" and that some of his answers to the committee weren't credible.

Facing New Hampshire voters at Saint Anselm College, Flake repeatedly condemned the rise of "tribalism" shaping the Supreme Court debate and US politics.

"It does no good to have an investigation that just gives us more cover", Flake said at the Forbes 30 under 30 Summit in Boston yesterday.

While Flake was prepared to vote to advance the Kavanaugh nomination earlier in the day Friday before reaching an agreement with Coons and several other senators to effectively force a one week delay to allow time for the Federal Bureau of Investigation to conduct interviews into sexual assault allegations against the nominee, his comments Monday evening rejected the impulse to move ahead as quickly as possible. The 55-year-old Republican, who is retiring from the Senate at the end of the year, has already declared his interest in a possible 2020 presidential bid - as a Republican or an independent - in part to stop Trump from winning a second term.

Judge Kavanaugh's nomination is out of committee.

Congressional candidates Ayanna Pressley of MA and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of NY both spoke to the crowd, with Pressley, a member of the Boston City Council, sharing that when she was a student at Boston University, she was raped.

The Democrats are doing irreparable harm in the name of their own political agenda and have made victims of Judge Kavanaugh and his family, Ms. Ford and all of us, the American people. "It is about uplifting the voices that have been victimized".

Kavanaugh's confirmation hinges on a handful of key Republican and Democratic senators who have not yet fully tipped their votes.

I have been a registered Democrat all my life but I never thought I'd be ashamed to say so. "That's your job to vet the nominee".

Sen. Mazie Hirono, a Democrat from Hawaii, said, "We're going to put a conspiracy theory believer on the court?" "In that moment, our impulse to tribalism was tearing the country apart".

"It has not been in my plans to run for president, but I have not ruled it out", Flake said at the time.

"I've been failing my tribe for some time now", he continued. "I think that the Republicans want to be reminded what it means to be a traditional, decent Republican". I hope to continue to fail my tribe.
