Wicklow is one of the coastal counties that has been issued with an orange weather warning ahead of Storm Callum and residents are being asked to exercise caution as the storm advances.

A yellow warning for wind is in place for Northern Ireland from 3am on Friday morning until just before midnight on Friday night.

Cork and Kerry are also affected by the status orange wind warning, but those counties have been advised to adhere to the warning between 10pm tonight and 9am in the morning.

"Netweather Forecaster Jo Farrow said" Storm Callum is expected to bring very strong winds to western Britain and Northern Ireland during Friday morning, lasting for NW Scotland into the afternoon.

Members of the gardai, the coast guard, the defence forces, and Met √Čireann, as well as a number of other bodies will attend a meeting at 3pm today to discuss preparing for the harsh weather.

Yellow Met Office Weather Warnings for wind and rain are in force for Friday and Saturday.

It is due to pass to the west of Ireland, northern England and Scotland during Friday.

A combination of winds up to 60 miles per hour and heavy rainfall are set to make driving conditions hazardous - including along the coast at times of high tides.

After the worst of the wind has swept the country, the tail-end of Hurricane Leslie will bring rainfall, raising the prospect of coastal and river flooding.

There is also a warning for rain in place for Cumbria from 12am to 23.59pm on Saturday (October 13). Expect the unexpected. Watch out for falling/fallen debris on the road and vehicles veering across the road.

South Wales is bracing itself for a two-day deluge that's expected to cause flash floods and travel chaos.

"We are advising people to avoid coastal areas during this event". On Saturday the rain could become even heavier.

The RSA said that with the risk of coastal flooding, motorists should not attempt to drive through flooded areas.
