The two leaders are set to hold a summit meeting at the office of the prime minister in Tokyo on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that there is a need to work unitedly to address issues such as terrorism, climate change, economic development to social justice through universal cooperation and co-ordination.

In an interview with Japanese media on Friday, Modi said his discussions with Abe "will be an opportunity to review our ongoing cooperation and discuss ways for expanding our relationship for promoting peace, progress and prosperity throughout the Indo-Pacific region and beyond". "Japan is India's partner in railway modernisation, including Mumbai Ahmedabad High Speed Railway", Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.

Terming the Indian community as ambassadors of India in Japan, the Prime Minister urged them to invest in India and to maintain cultural ties with the motherland. He arrived Saturday and was invited to Abe's vacation house near Mount Fuji on Sunday for private talks.

The two leaders are scheduled to hold formal talks in Tokyo on Monday that will also likely touch on China's growing power in the region.

Before hosting Modi at his villa, Abe took the Indian PM on a tour of the robotics and automation facilities at the FANUC Corporation in Yamanashi, which is one of the largest makers of industrial robots in the world.

Their meeting came immediately after a trip by Abe to Beijing, where he met with Chinese leaders, showcasing their improving relations.

'India is going through a massive transformative phase today.

Following the talks, agreements were signed on cooperation between the naval forces of the two countries, healthcare, digital and new technologies, and food processing. The world is appreciating India for its efforts towards services towards humanity. Earlier, Modi interacted with some Japanese venture capitalists.

Although a proposed "quad" regional defense initiative between democracies Australia, India, Japan and the United State seems stuck in stasis, Japan and India sit on the eastern and western flanks of an expansive China, and are upping defense cooperation.

President Donald Trump's policies that have targeted mostly China with tariffs, but also Japan and other nations, accusing them of unfair trade practices, are working to prod India and Japan to promote their economic ties.

Speaking about "Make in India" initiative, Modi said the initiative has emerged as global brand.

Till now, the 2+2 dialogue between India and Japan was held at the vice-ministerial level.
