Despite a steady drumbeat of stories painting a picture of a strained relationship between the two royal couples, last week it emerged that William, Harry and their wives will join the Queen and other members of the royal family at Sandringham for Christmas, in an apparent show of unity.

It comes after recent reports that Harry and his pregnant wife are abandoning their central London base at Kensington Palace for Frogmore Cottage in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Meghan Markle is expected to have her first child with Prince Harry sometime in the early part of 2019.

Another source reportedly told Vanity Fair that while Kate and Meghan were "very different people" they have "made an effort to get along".

"I spent the first few months in the White House mainly worrying about my daughters, making sure they were off to a good start at school and making new friends before I launched into any more ambitious work".

The rumors heated up after Harry and Markle announced their decision to move out of Kensington Palace, where Kate and Middleton call home.

Tension reached a new height when she was left off the guest list for Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding in 2011.

The Cambridges regularly alternate Christmas plans.

According to a book by reporter Richard Jobson, a royal source revealed 37-year-old Meghan wanted to wear a tiara which featured emeralds, but there were concerns it might have come from Russian Federation.

In fact, based on how their usual arrangement, they are due for a Middleton Christmas this year- and given Kate and her sister Pippa have both welcomed babies this year, it would be an especially cute occasion.

A senior royal aide told The Sun last Christmas that Meghan had been "downright rude".

However, Arbiter points out there would be a more likely explanation for that choice if the reports prove to be true.

When this festive time of year rolls around, she likes to install a small forest of Christmas trees in her home, including one in each of her grandchildren's rooms "so that they can decorate it themselves".
